Hurkacz Completes Career Set of Masters 1000 Quarterfinals

Hurkacz Leads ATP Tour in Aces in 2023

Daniil Medvedev defeated Hubert Hurkacz 6-1 6-4 in 63 minutes to win his fifth ATP Tour singles title in five finals at the 2022 Rome Masters. The victory marks Medvedev's first title since winning the 2021 US Open. Hurkacz, who led the ATP Tour in aces in 2023, reached his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal in Rome, completing a career set of Masters 1000 quarterfinals.

Medvedev, who is now ranked seventh in the world, has won 14 of his last 15 matches. He is the first player to win five ATP Tour titles in five finals since Roger Federer in 2017. Hurkacz, who is ranked 11th in the world, has now reached the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slams and all nine Masters 1000 events. He is the top Polish men's player in history.

In the final, Medvedev broke Hurkacz's serve three times in the first set and twice in the second set. Hurkacz, who hit 10 aces in the match, failed to convert any of his four break point chances. Medvedev won the match on his third match point when Hurkacz hit a backhand long.

With the win, Medvedev moves into the top 10 in the ATP rankings and is now in contention for a spot in the ATP Finals in Turin in November.
